so, it looks like the mod of kinkfreezone went and deleted the comm! because people were going over from here, and from ithiliana's post, and from vito_excalibur's post, and being MEAN to her. Which is sort of not at all what I wanted to happen - I felt like making fun of it from a distance was sufficient - but, whatever. Anyway, I'm kind of sad, actually, and regretful, because now it's not around to make fun of anymore! Ah well.

anyhow, yesterday, while it was still there and I was still charmed by its ridiculousness, I started writing Kirk/Spock fic that's sort of . . . about the comm. I don't know. It's sort of a parody? But sort of also SRS BZNS POLITICAL PROTEST. It's a thing I did. Therefore;

a/n: I just want to say that this is a hilarious way to break into writing Star Trek fic. Can you believe I've never written anything for any Treks before? I mean, unless you count that Malcolm/Trip story that I never finished and that will live on my hard drive until I die. Which I don't.

Why This Must Be Read:

A heartbreaking to heartwarming trio of Rodney/Radek fics. The first, Go Away, is quite dark, Cold is, well, cold, nearly enough to leave the reader shivering. And Liar Liar makes everything better. I'm a sucker for this type of fic, myself, and both men feel very believable. Angsty!Radek and, as is often the case, somewhat clueless!Rodney feature. An excellent short series.

Why This Must Be Read:
There is so much great character stuff, humor, and interaction between the two teams... this fic is how I wished the crossover-episode 'Pegasus Project' had turned out. I'm reccing it in the Sam/Rodney category for the delightful UST between the two, but I'd say you'll also enjoy it if you like plotty team SG-1/SGA crossover fic. I'd sort this fic under gen myself, in spite of some - well, a lot of - kissing (plot-relevant) and UST.

(It does have a decidedly not-worksafe Sam/Rodney sequel in A question of perspective Or Reality Doesn't Always Come in Second to Fantasy, which was previously rec'd here and which I also highly recommend.)

So I took the Harry Potter Husband quiz and tried very hard to answer the questions with my actual husband in mind (I mean, I'm smart enough to tailor make a Sirius quiz if I want) -- and I'm not at all surprised by the results. I wonder how the Admiral would feel about this...ok, I think, as he's read the final book.

Here's the percentages -- also not surprising. I'd say if not Neville, The Admiral is most like adult James. Though honestly, I'm not sure I'm like either Hannah or Lily...but I guess they're not accounting for that. I'm happy to see that apparantly the author of this quiz didn't find either Malfoy suitably interesting to put on the list.

Why This Must Be Read: After Sheppard is tortured through the use of a potently addictive drug, it's up to Rodney to help get him through the withdrawal. This is a sad but ultimately beautiful story of friendship between John and Rodney, showing the lengths Rodney is willing to go to help free John of the dependency that was forced on him. Merlin also does a wonderful job of portraying John's high - the pain and hallucinations - and the agony of the withdrawal that follows.
The story is dark, but also hopeful.

So, occasionally, when I want a fluff-me-up for my mood, I'll go trolling You Tube for "Top-ten cinematic kiss" videos and that sort of thing. I find that I don't often completely agree with the choices others make (completely fine) and I wonder what would be on my list, if I was the type who was inclined to learn how to make videos and take the time to do so.

I know this would be on the top ten:



For those of you unfamiliar with the movie, French Kiss, Kevin Kline is a Frenchman who smuggles a stolen diamond necklace through customs by putting it in Meg Ryan's carry-on, he then tries to get it back by helping her chase down and win back her errant fiance (Charlie) despite his proclaimed cynicism about romance. In this scene, she's using the backpack as a pillow, which is why he's got his arm around her and is digging in her bag. I just love hearing the music and watching Kevin Kline's expression in this as he goes from just humoring her, to surprise to down right longing when he leans in and just stops himself from touching her. I wish I could write kisses that made people feel all that.

So, what would be on your list?

you guys, I have found the most hilarious thing EVER. Look, look! It's kinkfreezone! A place for fic that has NO KINK IN IT WHATSOEVER.

at first I was like, headtilt, okay, I can see someone who doesn't like certain kinds of kink fic wanting to make a space for that . . . because, uh, non-kink fic is so discriminated against in fandom . . . and then I read the absolutely amazing list of kinks that are NOT ALLOWED, and I laughed and laughed and laughed.

It's weird ... back when I was an undergrad, I used to have problems with insomnia and a really weird sleep schedule, and now that I'm taking classes again, I keep having these intermittent bouts of insomnia a few times a week. Not nearly as bad as before, when I wouldn't sleep for two or three days at a time, but just waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to get back to sleep for hours, if at all.

It's not so much stress as just not being able to stop thinking about what I need to do. I'm a planner and I don't like to have unfinished responsibilities hanging over my head. Classwork is a never-ending series of unfinished responsibilities, and I find myself going around and around in my head on what I still need to do, and not being able to let it go enough to sleep.

Since I'm up anyway, I may as well post on TV. I haven't been watching a whole lot of TV, but it's nice to have a few hours a week when I can make my brain shut up.

Why This Must Be Read:
You don´t need to know Avatar: The Last Airbender to enjoy this fic as (almost) none of the series´ characters appear at all. Instead the author simply puts "Zohn" and "Mer" into this world and makes it come alive. It is a story about both of them trying to find their place in a world torn apart by war, told slowly and beautifully in small snippets. The last four sentences make the fic pre-slash, but I would rather describe it as friendship since that is the most prominent feature throughout most of it.

So, hey, I made a baby!



He is totally an awesome baby, if I say so myself. We are all fine here, and I have actually been creeping around the internet, though reading is easier than typing one handed (which is way annoying.)

I am also taking "sleep when the baby sleeps" very VERY seriously.

But I did want to take a sec to thank everyone who sent their good wishes (I like to think that my boy has a thousand fannish fairy godmothers.) I also got some terrific gifts that I need to shout out--a zombie penguin, a DS zebra, footie pajamas with rockets and aliens on them and Star Trek porn and Holmes anime and podfic and more--but I've only managed to get one fannish picture taken, which is Tiberius in the awesome onesie Auntie therienne got for him.

I have successfully moved top Florida. Well, I'm in Florida at least. Still have to get down to the keys, but that'll happen by the end of today. We've gone to Disney, stayed in awesome hotels (17th floor with huge sliding glass doors to a balcony) and well, lots of driving, but it's been fun. Anyway, just letting anyone who reads this know.

So I happened to see that last night's Bones was a Wendell ep. Against my better judgment I tuned in. ( Yeah. I should have listened to my better judgment. Story of my life. )

I should have just gone to bed early. Or caught up on V, which I haven't had a chance to watch yet. And do you know I FORGOT that CSI was on last night? Yesterday was a really long day. I can only pray today is better.

A lovely character study of two very different women who are brought together when Cassie breaks her leg and needs someone to help her about the house.  The drama centres on Cassie's coming of age realizations about herself, and concludes with a gentle perfection.

The empire strikes back
